Powder Processing Solutions (PPS) provides a wide range of testing and training options to help you achieve your business goals.


Testing

Analysis of Mixtures – PPS can obtain particle size data on any powder or powder blend. Further, we can analyze powder blends to determine segregation potential and magnitude. Our particle size prediction models and mixing capability models accurately predict a mixer’s performance. Powder mixing studies are our specialty!

Shear Testing (Jenike) – PPS can generate yield loci and flow functions, wall friction data, time consolidation studies, and bulk compressibility data. From the results we can calculate bin design parameters to prevent arching and ratholing.

Moisture Sorption Tests – Moisture affects powders, inhibiting flow and accelerating degradation. PPS addresses moisture issues with salt solutions or a VTI controlled environment microbalance. We can generate moisture sorption and desorption isotherms and may also run kinetic studies to evaluate the rate of moisture adsorption.

Other studies – As needed, PPS will subcontract studies for surface area analysis, permeability, electrostatic charging, true density measurements, and other specialized tests. Most importantly, we know when a specific test is necessary and how best to analyze results with respect to your unique powder processing problems.


Training

Jim Davis specializes in developing and leading training courses that teach key particle processing concepts yet can reach everyone from plant technicians to senior engineers. His two-day course covering the basics of powder processing operations provides an excellent introduction for technicians and engineers new to the field. Other developed courses include powder mixing, pneumatic conveying, and grinding. Jim can also tailor courses to meet unique plant needs.
