International Fine Particle Research Institute (IFPRI) – This consortium of companies sponsors research in the field of particle systems, focusing on nongranular, IFPRI - International Fine Particle Research Institutefine particles. Research includes 3D characterization of particle shapes, dynamic flow properties of cohesive powders, milling of organic materials, process control of granulation systems, and surface chemistry of high ionic strength powders in liquid suspension. Past work includes studies in powder mixing, pneumatic conveying, ball milling, extrusion, electrostatic charging of particles, particle attrition, spray drying, and classification. Jim is a member and recruiter for IFPRI.

American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) – A leading organization for chemical engineering professionals, AIChE has more than 40,000 members from 93 countries. AIChE - American Institute of Chemical EngineersThe Particle Technology Forum (PTF) is a division of AIChE. PTF serves as an interdisciplinary, international forum to promote information exchange, scholarship, research, and education in the field of particle technology. PTF meetings address science and engineering related to all types of particle technologies, wet or dry, reactive or nonreactive. Jim is an active member and served as chairman of the powder flow chapter of PTF.

E&G Associates – This engineering consulting and contract research firm resolves problems within industries that make or use powders in their formulations. E&G AssociatesProject experience ranges from solids-handling issues involving flowability/segregation and solids-dosage operations of granulation, encapsulation, and compaction to API production. Jim has collaborated with E&G’s president, Dr. Bryan Ennis, on multiple projects. Jim also serves as an instructor for three yearly training classes hosted by Dr. Ennis.

ASTM InternationalCharacterization and Handling of Powders and Bulk Solids Committee of ASTM International (D18.24) – This committee standardizes proposed tests for powder characteristics for acceptance around the world. Jim served as chairman of D18.24 and is an active member of its leadership.

Powder & Bulk EngineeringPowder and Bulk Engineering – This organization produces a monthly trade journal and biweekly e-mail newsletters providing expert answers to problems, helpful tips to powder handling issues, and announcements of events and new releases in the trade. They also sponsor several webinars a year to address specific powder and bulk topics. Jim is on the editorial advisory board and contributes frequently to the journal and newsletters.
